What is a community garden?

Mission

"To provide a welcoming, sustainable garden space in Buellton where community members of all ages can grow fresh produce, learn about gardening, and connect with neighbors."

Vision

"To be a thriving, inclusive community hub where people of all ages come together to grow food, share knowledge, and cultivate a stronger, greener Buellton."

History of the Garden

The Buellton Community Garden was founded by Alexandra “Annie” Yakutis and Greg Erickson, who envisioned transforming a vacant lot into a space for growing food and building community connections. With support from local volunteers, businesses, and the City of Buellton, the garden grew to include 46 raised beds, accessible plots, and beautiful artist-designed gates. Officially opened on September 7, 2024, it continues to be a vibrant hub for gardening, education, and neighborhood collaboration.

Community Impact

A community garden is any piece of land gardened by a group of people for the benefit of the group, the neighbors, and the wider community. Buellton Community Garden has received approval to use the city owned lot at 480 Central Avenue in Buellton to grow fruits, flowers, vegetables, herbs, and community.
